Jayanti is my yoga name–It means victorious
The name was given to me many years ago by my yoga teacher. She gave this name to me as I worked to overcome many obstacles to become a yoga teacher and get through my first level of training.
See, I was a single, working mother of 3 girls and spare time and money were a luxury. I had been an uncommitted practitioner for about 20 years until I went through this challenging time in my life. That hour or so I was on the mat, saved me from a mental break-down. The more I practiced, not only Asana, but also meditation, the more I noticed a shift in my energy from barely making it, to vibrantly alive, aware and peaceful. It became clear to me during my struggle to raise 3 teenagers that I had to become consistent in my practice and get trained as a teacher. When I took my training, I persevered to pay for and complete it because I was passionate about its healing possibilities. It was my love of and study of BKS Iyengar’s works and method of yoga that helped me to integrate how a down dog or any pose might lead me to more unity of body and mind–to a place where meditation–even for a moment in the Asana can happen.
